Plant a Tree, Make a Difference

Solano Resource Conservation District is holding volunteer native plant events December and January to improve wildlife habitat

Dixonites will have an opportunity to make the world a little greener in December and January.

Solano Resource Conservation District will be holding several volunteer planting days to plant native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses along two creeks in Solano County.

These efforts will improve wildlife habitat and beautify our local creeks.  Please join us and make a direct and positive impact on the health of our watersheds!

Those interested in attending must RSVP and reserve a spot either by e-mail at Katherine.Holmes@solanorcd.org or by calling 707-678-1655, ext 118.

  • Saturday, December 17th from 1-3:30 – Take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle and come help us plant a variety of native trees at Lake Solano Park.  These trees will grow to replace the dead and dying non-native locust trees that currently shade the picnic areas.
  • Sunday, January 15th from 1-3:30 – Start off the New Year in a green way by joining Solano RCD as we plant native sedge and grass plugs along a steep bank of Old Alamo Creek where it runs through the town of Elmira.  This will help reduce soil erosion and improve water quality.
  • Saturday, January 28th from 1-3:30 – We will be back at Lake Solano Park, planting native sedge plugs and a variety of native shrubs at a remote site in the Park where we removed non-native fig trees earlier this year.

Volunteers need not be experts – if you have an interest in conservation or restoration, we welcome you at these events. Families are also welcome.  Participants should dress warmly and be prepared for rain. Solano RCD will provide hot drinks and all necessary tools.
