In order to complete the program, and win prizes, each teen must read 10 books or 3,000 pages – the purpose of the program is to make reading fun and encourage Dixon youth to read and use the library.

The International Film Festival will broaden the perspective of Dixon teens and be an incentive for them to stay in the program and complete their reading goals.  Attract Dixon teens to the reading program by including popular and intellectually stimulating movies.

Expose teens in Dixon to global cultures and languages by showing quality films. They will discuss books in the library that reflect the cultures or themes of the movies. Increase vocabulary, writing skills and reading comprehension skills.

Studies indicate that successful summer reading programs improve student performance in schools. Funds will be used to pay the cost of the licensing fee allowing the library to show copyrighted movies at the Teen Center.

In addition, the license will cover an unlimited number of movies for 12 months, and will enable both the Dixon Public Library and the Teen Center to show films throughout the year.   The cost of an annual license is $525.
