Dixon Patch Athlete of the Week: Jeffrey Miner

The Rams point guard sunk a half-court buzzer beater to beat Benicia last week.

Jeffrey Miner is the Dixon Patch Athlete of the Week.

The senior sunk a half-court game-winning shot last Tuesday to beat Benicia 72-69.

Miner said there were three seconds left when Jake Moraes inbounded the ball to him and he had to heave it up for a prayer with time running out.

With Golden Empire League play starting this week, Miner hopes the Rams (12-5) can continue their winning ways.

“We just got to step it up in league and we’ll be good,” he said. “We just got to keep playing hard and hopefully be fine.”

Miner quit his job at to focus his time on basketball this season. When he does have free time, he likes to skeet/trap shoot and ride his all-terrain vehicle. He also likes Syracuse University basketball.

Miner really enjoys being a student of coach Sam Harrison’s system.

“He gets to the point,” Miner said. “There’s time he has fun but mostly it’s do everything right.”

Harrison said Miner’s a pure shooter.

“He’s just been a great asset to our team,” Harrison said. “Very coachable. He’s always ready to practice and play. He’s always trying to do the right thing for the team.”

Miner hopes to attend Sacramento State or Sacramento City College after he graduates this spring.
