Dixon Boy's Varsity Baseball Loses to Capital Christian 10-0

The Dixon Varsity Boys baseball team lost to Capital Christian High School 10-0 Thursday afternoon in Dixon, dropping to 1-2 in league, 2-5-1 overall.

The Dixon High Rams suffered a tough loss on Thursday against visiting Capital Christian who put up 10 runs in six innings to end the game early, while their ace Terrance Bremby no-hit the Rams' lineup.

"Marysville and Capital Christian are the two teams to beat in this league, and we knew coming in today that we would be facing their No. 1 pitcher and today that kid pitched a great game," said Dixon head coach Scott Winslow. "We’ve got to play better defense. We did not hit the cutoff man, we made a lot of mistakes in communication in the infield, and obviously we could definitely work a lot more on our hitting."

Capital Christian struck early in this game, putting up two quick runs in the top of the first, but the Cougars would do most of their damage in the second inning where they scored four more runs, making it 6-0. Dixon struggled through the inning, making several errors in the field, and Taylor Landis, who closed out the inning, finally replaced starting pitcher Angel Lara.

"We have a young team," said Coach Winslow. "A lot of the really talented kids on this team are only juniors or sophomores, so they'll be around for awhile. We'll start working out the kinks in practice right away. There's always something to improve upon."

The Cougars would score three more runs in the fourth inning (two off of wild pitches) before finally putting the nail in the coffin in the sixth inning, as another past ball allowed Capital Christian to score their tenth run. Dixon would have a last at-bat to retaliate, but were unable to score any runs, putting the 10-run rule into effect.

Despite the rough outing, the Ram's coaching staff remains optimistic about the future of this ballclub.

"I talked to the kids and the first thing I asked them was 'what did you learn today?"  Coach Winslow said. "We have to put this game behind us, and the way to do that is to find where we made our mistakes and correct them. We have to ask ourselves 'how are we going to work hard in practice and improve and get better?'"
