The children’s list is topped by the Wimpy Kid series, books that never remain on the shelves more than 24 hours.  Dork Diaries by Russell is the “girl version” of Wimpy Kid, and almost as popular.

Children wanting to check the latest of Rick Riordan novels featuring Percy Jackson and Greek gods and goddesses will have to get on the holds list for Son of Neptune.   Two books, War Horse, historical fiction set in World War I, and Hugo Cabret, beautifully illustrated and written by Brian Selznick are exceptionally popular as holiday blockbuster movies directed by Stephen Spielberg and Martin Scorcese hit the movie theaters in November and December of this year.  Everyone is asking for the Forgotten Warrior, a seemingly never-ending series about a clan of cats by Erin Hunter.

Children just beginning to read should check out the escapades of Fly Guy, a series by Tedd Arnold, and Piggy and Gerald the Elephant, two amiable and funny friends created by Mo Willems.  Parents will love reading “Little White Rabbit” and other picture books by Kevin Henkes to their pre-schoolers.   Rarely seen on the Library shelves is The Princess Encyclopedia, the last word on the most famous Disney heroines.

Many more exciting books have just arrived at the Dixon Public Library for parents, children and teens to enjoy over the Winter Holiday.
