DHS Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band to Host World-Class Musician Thursday Night

Dixon High School's Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band will host Phil O'Connor, whose music has appeared on many Hollywood blockbusters, TV shows and commercials.

The Dixon High School Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band will host a special guest Thursday during a concert at Dixon High School.

World-class musician Phil O’ Connor will be making the trip from his Los Angeles home to join the Dixon High Band in making some sweet sounds for all to enjoy.

O’Connor, a saxophone and clarinet player who is a Vacaville native, has an impressive list of musical accomplishments. As a recording musician, his work is heard on over 200 motion picture soundtracks including blockbusters such as “X-Men,” “War of the Worlds,” “Wall-E,” and “Spiderman 3,” DHS Band Director Adrian Coulson wrote in an e-mail.

O’Conner also has a long list of television credits, working on both TV shows and advertising. His music can be heard on ESPN, the History Channel, FOX and NBC and also on national advertising campaigns for Acura, Burger King, Ford, Honda and McDonalds.

O’Conner also plays with many of Southern California’s finest musical organizations as a substitute including Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, LA Opera, Long Beach Symphony and New West Symphony Coulson wrote.

“These concerts have always been superior quality, entertaining, and very inspiring for our students,” Coulson wrote.

The concert will feature the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 1 and music from Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk and John Daversa.

Everyone is invited to the concert on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m., at Dixon High School’s Theater, 555 College Way, Dixon. Admission is $5 and tickets will be available at the door. The concert will be professionally recorded and CDs will be for sale.
