Solano County Observes Probation, Parole, Community Supervision Week

During the week of July 17-23, counties throughout the state will observe Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Appreciation Week

During the week of July 17, people in Solano County and throughout the United States and its territories will join together to recognize the work that probation, parole and community supervision professionals do for public safety.

Since 1841, the practice of probation and parole has played a vital role in the justice system. Today, in America, there are more than 5 million adults on community supervision and most of these individuals are monitored by probation and parole officers.

“They are creative and resourceful, particularly during these challenging fiscal times,” said Isabelle Voit, Solano County Chief Probation Officer. “They daily balance their responsibility to hold juvenile and adult offenders accountable with providing necessary support to assist offenders to make long term changes and become productive members of society.”

Solano County probation officers provided cost effective supervision to over 3,500 adult and more than 800 juvenile offenders this past year, monitoring compliance with court orders and helping offenders change their behavior. In addition, institution staff at the Juvenile Detention Facility, New Foundations program and Fouts Springs Youth facility provided supervision and intervention to as many as 180 detained minors at any given time.

Probation and Parole professionals exhibit care and concern for victims of crime including assisting in collecting restitution. In fiscal year 2010-2011, Solano County Probation collected almost $250,000 in restitution for victims of crime. Despite dwindling resources, Probation continues to provide safe, secure juvenile detention, innovative intervention services for adults and juveniles, and offender accountability through enforcement of court orders.
