Marijuana Dispensaries in Rural Dixon? See What Residents Have to Say

The Solano County Board of Supervisors is holding public meeting regarding new regulation of medical marijuana operations in the unincorporated areas of the county. They have created an online survey to send your concerns or support.

Opinions are flying throughout Dixon on the topic of the potential for rural medical marijuana operations

Because the Board of Supervisors wants your input, Solano County has created an online survey to provide feedback on the options the Board of Supervisors should consider in regulating medical marijuana operations in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The same survey that was provided at the series of five community meetings held over the last two weeks is available online at www.solanocounty.com/medicalmarijuana.

In a press release, Bill Emlen, director the Department of Resource Management said, "We had some very informative discussions at the community meetings, and the online option gives residents who were unable to attend an easy avenue to provide their comments.

The outreach follows Board discussions early this year for staff to draft an ordinance that would regulate medical marijuana operations, including the placement of dispensaries and associated activities, such as marijuana cultivation, fees, taxes and public health protection.

The current ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in the unincorporated areas of the county was adopted on July 30, 2013 and includes a sunset provision to expire on July 29, 2014.

County staff expects to return to the Board on Dec. 3 with the results of the outreach effort. A draft ordinance and the analysis of the impact of implementing the ordinance are anticipated for Board review in early summer 2014.
