Library Board Rules On Library Commission Applicant Vetting Process

At a special meeting, The Governing Board of Library Trustees extends deadline to apply for three vacant Library Commission seats.

Convening immediately after adjourning their emergency Dixon School Board meeting Thursday -- at which they named a new Superintendent, Brian Dolan -- the Library Trustees then briefly took up a single item of new Library business.

The Library Board decided to open up an application process for a seat on the Library Commission that will be vacated by Commissioner Shane Taber. The new application process will allow for everyone, except for convicted felons who are on parole, to apply for Taber’s seat.

The Library Commission still has two other vacant openings – seats that were populated by former Commission President Greta Galindo and Commissioner Marjorie Rothrock. Commission candidates will be vetted from applications turned in last month, and those from the new application process.

The new application process calls for interested parties to apply for the seats by Aug. 21.

"All applications will be accepted during the new time period," stated Trustee Irina Okremtchouk.

After the new application period ends, a vetting subcommittee comprised of two Trustees will then interview all applicants to fill the three seats.

Commission seat applicant Ian Arnold told Dixon Patch in a brief interview he'd been informed, that, as of yesterday, six other people have also applied so far. This level of interest is much higher than has been evidenced in years past when there were openings on the Commission.

Applications for Library Commission seat may be submitted at the Dixon Library, 230 North First Street through August 21.

Editor’s Note: an earlier version of this article stated that the application deadline for the three commission vacancies was extended. The board did not extend the applications process, but instead created an entirely new one for one of the three vacant seats. Applications turned in during the new application process will be considered to fill the two other vacancies on the commission.
