A man who was injured when his motorcycle collided with a big-rig in Vacaville last week died at a Sacramento hospital on Sunday afternoon, a police sergeant said today.

Frank Gonsalves, 36, of Vacaville, died at 12:30 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center, Vacaville police Sgt. Mark Donaldson said.

Gonsalves' motorcycle collided with a big-rig around 12:30 p.m. Thursday on Nut Tree Road at Fairview Drive, police said.

The big-rig, driven by Rickie Williams, 58, of Sacramento, was traveling north on Nut Tree Road approaching the Raley's supermarket driveway, police said.

Gonsalves was riding south on Nut Tree Road approaching the Raley's store and was attempting to turn left into the driveway when the bike and the big-rig collided, police said.

Gonsalves suffered severe head trauma and was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, police said.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident, police said.

Great to see the 4th graders getting ready for their 5th grade camp at Alliance Redwoods. I took myRead More 6th graders there for many years and Alliance has an outstanding program that keeps the kids focused on environmental education and stewardship. The night hike through the redwoods was always their favorite (along with the zip line). Note: No need to bring snacks as the dining hall meals has everything you will need, but you may want to bring some extra money for the gift shop. Dan Mattingly/Retired Teacher
