A man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly attempting to stab two police officers in Vacaville when they responded to a domestic incident, police said.

A woman called police at around 5:15 p.m. to report that her ex-husband, 54-year-old Donald Cunningham, was intoxicated and had broken into her backyard through a side fence in the 200 block of Luzena Avenue.

The woman told police that Cunningham forced his way into her garage and refused to leave. Cunningham reportedly told his wife that he wanted something to happen so he could die, according to police.

Cunningham allegedly told his ex-wife that he wanted the police to deal with him. The woman also informed officers that there were large hunting knives in the garage, police said.

Police said that responding officers discovered Cunningham sitting in a chair in the garage, armed with two large hunting knives.

Cunningham allegedly got out of the chair and moved toward the officers with the knives raised and told the officers that he was going to stab them, police said.

An officer deployed his Taser to subdue the suspect and Cunningham was taken into custody.

Cunningham was taken to a hospital before he was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
