Solano Sheriffs Seek Public's Help in Identifying a John Doe

The man was found dead inside a Vallejo home on Aug. 31.

The Solano County Sheriff's Department is putting the call out to the public to help them identify a man who was found dead inside an abandoned Vallejo home.

The man is believed to be homeless according to the Sheriff's Department. Workers who were cleaning out an abandoned home on Aug. 31 2010, on the 1800 block of Carolina Street in Vallejo when they discovered human skeletal remains. 

The cleanup workers called the Vallejo Police Department and officers responded to the home. Solano County coroners were also called to investigate the remains.

The man is believed to be an African American homeless male, approximately 30-60 years of age. The Sheriff's Department said the man was apparently living inside the abandoned home. 

This person appeared to be approximately six feet tall, with a slender build.  He had short black hair, and no remaining teeth.  He was wearing two black hooded style sweatshirts, and two pairs of pants, one black and one brown. He was also wearing a Raiders baseball hat and red and white Timberland brand shoes, sized 9 1/2.  The remains appeared to have been in the home for approximately one year, the Sheriff's Department said.

The Solano County Coroner’s Office has continued to pursue investigative leads but efforts to identify this person have proven unsuccessful.

With assistance from the University of California, Davis and the California Department of Justice, we were able to render a facial reconstruction of the decedent.

During the autopsy, coroners also recovered a silver colored metallic chain necklace about 24 inches long, also pictured in this story with a close up of the metal links.

Anyone with information about the possible identity of the John Doe is urged to contact the Solano County Coroner’s Office at 707-421-7500.  Potential family members may be asked to provide a DNA sample for comparison before official identification can be made.
