Police Warn of Scammer Calling Dixon Homes For Teen Center Donations

A scam artist is calling homes asking for donations for the Dixon Teen Center

The Dixon Police Department is warning Dixon residents of a phone scammer who has been calling Dixon homes and soliciting donations for the .

The scammer has been calling Dixon homes and saying that he is a member of the who is taking donations for the Teen Center, Dixon Police Chief and Acting City Manager Jon Cox said.

"Its a complete fraud," Cox said.

A person who was about to donate had second thoughts and called police to confirm if they, in fact, were taking donations Cox said.

Although the center does take donations, directly through its web site or face-to-face at the center from known staff, the center does not call Dixon residents to ask for donations. The police department is especially interested in capturing this individual because he is telling people that he represents the Dixon Police Department, Cox said.

"We'd like to nip it in the bud as soon as possible," Cox said.

Anyone who receives a call from someone asking for donations for the teen center is asked to get as much information from the scammer as possible and contact police at (707) 678-7070
