Loss Update on July 4th Fire in Bird's Landing Neighborhood in Solano County

A four-alarm fire that damaged eight homes in the Bird's Landing area of Solano County on Friday is estimated to have caused millions of dollars in damage, a fire chief said.

The fire in the 1000 block of Collinsville Road was reported just before 1:30 p.m., a Solano County dispatcher said. When fire crews arrived they found two homes on fire and the blaze spread to six other homes, Montezuma Fire District Chief Joe Rosewall said.

The homes were near the Sacramento River, about 17 miles outside of Rio Vista and seven miles south of Bird's Landing, Rosewall said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist residents displaced by the fire, according to Rosewall.

The fire was contained between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., he said. Rosewall estimated the blaze caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage.

Exactly 50 firefighters assisted in the fire from 10 fire departments in the area, Rosewall said.

Fire crews stayed at the scene overnight to mop up the area affected by the blaze, he said.
