UPDATE: Hwy 12 Grass Fire Grew to 4-Alarm; Led to Lane Closures Sunday Afternoon

Both directions of state Highway 12 in Fairfield have reopened following a four-alarm grass fire this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was reported around 1:50 p.m. in a grassy area off of Highway 12 near Beck Avenue, according to a Fairfield Fire Department dispatcher.

As the blaze grew, nearby homes on James Street were evacuated, the dispatcher said.

The fire prompted the shutdown of Highway 12 from Beck Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews are fighting a two-alarm grass fire off of state Highway 12 in Fairfield this afternoon, according to a Fairfield Fire Department dispatcher.

The fire was reported around 1:50 p.m. in a grassy area off of Highway 12 near Beck Avenue, according to the dispatcher.

A second alarm was called for the fire a short time after 2 p.m. Further information was not immediately available.
