Boat Theft on the Rise in Dixon

Solano County Sheriff's Department and Dixon Police warn residents to safeguard themselves against outboard motor thefts throughout Solano.

Boat thefts are significantly on the rise in Solano County during the past month, and it seems thieves are looking for one thing in particular, the outboard engines.

Several reports for stolen boats have been taken in the unincorporated area of Solano County as well as within the cities of Dixon, Vacaville, Fairfield, Suisun, and Vallejo.

Authorities report majority of the boats stolen have been taken from victims’ driveways or side yard, during early morning hours.

“All the boats that have been stolen had outboard engines,” stated a press release from Dixon Police, adding that although some of the vessels have been found dumped in rural areas, none still had the motor intact.

The Dixon PD recommends that boats be parked in a secure location. If that is not possible outboard engines be locked in place or stored in a separate and secure location.

Trailer hitch locks have not been sufficient to prevent the recent thefts.

If anyone has information related to the theft of boats please contact Dixon Police Department’s Investigations Unit at (707) 678-7070.
