Confessions of a Cake Lady: Practicing What I Preach

Even the cake lady looses motivation; for me, finding inspiration is the key to success in most things, including mental and physical fitness.

Confession: Its been 14 days since I have worked out; while I have been binge eating and even thought about quitting my exercise and diet routine all together... repeatedly.

I'll keep this one short and sweet, no pun intended.

I had to spend a little time practicing what I’ve been preaching the last couple weeks. Motivation comes and goes for all of us, including me. I could barely muster up enough inspiration for myself, much less supply an entire blog post.

I’ve still been gardening and tending to our farmstead endeavors, working on my Bachelor’s Degree classes, and even took a long, food-oriented, spring break with the family, that, although included about 10 miles of walking through Portland and Seattle, didn’t fulfill my feel like I’m dying workout style.

So it has been two weeks today since my last sweat session, and I am feeling it. Here is how the cycle went for me.

Last Workout (Day 1 we will call it): Wednesday, March 27, typical mid-week w18-mile, 45 minute spin class; 3-mile, 32 minute jog, 35 push-ups, 60 sit-ups and 2 minute plank.

Day 3: Agitated, Anxious

Day 5: Carb and sugar cravings begin to rage

Day 6: Disconnected, still anxious and agitated

Day 10: All of the above, plus bloated

Day 12: Depressed, pity-party prone, convinced I’m done working out and just content being blah and not caring anymore

Day 13: Screw that, I didn’t work this hard to settle now. Back at it tomorrow, after all, I have a 10 mile race in 12 days, yikes!

The race coming up is in support of a cause close to my heart. An amazing little boy my daughter has been in school with since Kindergarten battles everyday with Muscular Dystrophy. I am running this race not only for him, but for his mom, who is the most brave and strong woman I have ever met. So thank you Wyatt and Shanna, you are my motivation to kick myself out of this funk and in gear this week.

“I run because I can. When I get tired, I remember those who can’t run, what they would give to have this simple gift that I take for granted, and I run harder for them. I know they would do the same for me.”

By the way! It’s not too late to join us in at the Run the Bridges Capital City Classic on April 21, 2013 or even better the MDA Muscle Walk on April 28, 2013. If running/walking isn’t your thing, please consider a donation to our team, funds raised help sponsor 10-year-olds with MD, like Wyatt to go to camps, and continue the research efforts to find a cure.
