Dixon High Students Challenged to Create PSA Videos on Water Awareness

For a chance to win $1500.

Dixon students are encouraged to join Solano County High school students to win up to $1,500 in cash by entering the 2014 Water Awareness Video Contest, sponsored by the Solano County Water Agency and local water utilities

The contest challenges teens to create compelling and original 60-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos on a select water efficiency topic. The 2014 water efficiency theme is: Spy on Your Sprinklers: Check your sprinklers monthly for water-wasting problems.

The contest is open to high school students in Solano County. The deadline to enter is Monday, March 31, 2014. Judging will be based on entertainment value and originality, videography, style and organization, audio/sound, and movie content and accuracy.

Winners will be announced on solanosaveswater.org in April 2014. Winning students and their schools will also receive cash prizes:

  • First place winner(s)—$1,500 split 50/50 between student(s) and their school
  • Second place winner(s)—$1,000 split 50/50 between student(s) and their school
  • Third place winner(s)—$500 split 50/50 between student(s) and their school
"In California, most water use occurs in the landscape," said Andy Florendo, a Senior Water Resource Specialist for Solano County Water Agency. "Sprinklers can play a big role in reducing outdoor water waste while maintaining a beautiful yard or garden. That's why the 2014 theme focuses on checking sprinklers every month for water-wasting problems. The contest challenges students to use their talents and creativity to help us spread this important message."

Entries are due by Monday, March 31, 2014. Students are encouraged to discuss the project with their high school video, multimedia, visual arts or environmental resource management teacher before submitting an entry.
