Diary of a Wimpy Kid Tour stops at Copperfield’s Books in Petaluma

Nestled in the heart of beautiful downtown Petaluma, lays Copperfield’s books. A seemingly quiet area, was transformed yesterday as a line of anxious children stretched forth among the alley way, courtyard and down the city block. The excitement was apparent from their faces, as they eagerly awaited their chance to meet the creator and mastermind behind the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Jeff Kinney.

Children from the quiet and shy, to the overly eager, all shared one thing in common; standing in line, with a copy of Hard Luck in hand, waiting to be signed.

Although more than 1000 children showed up, Jeff Kinney still took time for each child. Signing their books and posing for a picture, making each child his focus for that moment, allowing their time to be memorable and even magical.

Some children carried pictures as gifts, and some even asked for advice. Where Jeff Kinney took the time to thank each child and even lend advice, telling one child- “It’s very important to write every day, especially in a style that’s not your own.” While other children walked away with their treasured book in hand exclaiming- “I can’t believe it,” to “That was so awesome!”

DJ’s and activities lined the store, as children had the chance to track their many fortunes, or silly facts- such as “plants don’t sneeze," and even sign the Rodrick Rules bedroom door.  Entertaining the kids before and after their wait in line, making this event entertaining as well as unforgettable.

As luck would have it, only good luck and fortune shined upon the many kids that awaited their turn line to meet Jeff Kinney. I guess we will just leave the bad luck to Greg Heffley, in Diary of a Wimpy Kid- Hard Luck.

The most wonderful part of an event like this is the fact that children were not lined up to see a movie, or the latest video game, they were in line for a book. Showing the world that books can still captivate, entice and overcome. Highlighting the importance of literacy programs in our schools and our communities.

Diary of a wimpy kid calls to all types of readers. From the reluctant reader, comic fan, or anyone looking for a funny read. Check out the next book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series!

If you’re planning on attending this amazing event get there early. While the lines might be long, the rewards are well worth it.

A carnival type atmosphere will also be set up with games and fortunes to entertain the kids as well. For more information on where the tour bus stops next go to:  http://www.wimpykid.com
