Start The Weekend With Friday Fun

Music, Celebrities at VolunteerFest

This week’s Family Best Bets chosen by our Patch staff include a local basketball game that promises fun and laughter, a puppet show in Sacramento, and ‘VolunteerFest’ at Raley Field. Since the weather is forecast for rain on Saturday, don’t forget the raincoats. The important thing to remember: Have a great time with your family!

1. Fourth Annual Dixon High School Seniors versus Staff Basketball Game at DHS Gym. This is a fundraiser for the ‘Mighty Class of 2011.’ Admission is $4 for students without Student Body cards and adults and $2 for students with student body cards and children under 12 years old. Game starts at 6 p.m. There will be a half time 3-point contest with a prize and the Pep Band will be playing.

2. Fairytale Town Goes Green. Educational displays recycled hands-on art activities, and more fill the Town on Saturday, March 26, but the real joy will probably come from the Three Little Pigs Puppet Show, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Fairytale Town in William Land Park of Sacramento. Admission is $4.50, free for children age one and under. Call (916) 808-5233 or go to FairytaleTown.org. The puppet show is an extra $2.

3. Outback Steakhouse customers can support U.S. troops by dining from Outback’s Red, White & Bloomin’ menu which will be available in participating Outback restaurants between now and April 5.  Five-percent of the proceeds from the Red, White & Bloomin' menu will help to meet the $1 million commitment to Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that provides emergency and emotional support for active troops, veterans and their families. The menu includes new items such as a Chicken Artichoke Flatbread, Hearts of Gold Mahi and Strawberry Waffle Shortcake dessert along with many other Outback favorites.
