Religious Services Celebrate Resurrection

Good Friday, Easter Traditions Offered About Town

There are several religious services today-- ‘Good Friday,’ the Friday before Easter commemorating the death of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. Somber and retrospective observances will be offered at various local churches while Easter Sunday will bring plenty of celebrations of his resurrection.

At , Dixon’s Catholic Church, 

the Veneration of the Cross will be at noon in English; the Station of the Cross at 3:30; and the Veneracion de la Santa Cruz at 6 p.m.

The Good Friday services will also be offered at noon at , 955 East A Street in Dixon as well as a Tenebrae Candlelight Service in the Sanctuary of at 8 p.m.

On Holy Saturday at the Catholic Church, residents are invited to participate in the Easter Vigil at 8 p.m. in English or 10:30 p.m. in Spanish. There will be no 5 or 7 p.m. Mass.

The Dixon Ministerial Association comprised of several Dixon ministers will provide the tradition of watching the sun come up on Easter morning with fellow believers. The Easter Sunrise Service on April 24 will be at 6:30 a.m. at Hall Park behind , 600 East A Street. There will be hymns, praise songs, and Pastor Jeff Myers of will be sharing the Easter message. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

of Dixon is also having a Sunrise Service in the country at 8550 Runge Road in Dixon starting at 6:00 a.m.  It will be in a covered facility so will proceed regardless of the weather.  A continental breakfast will be provided following.  Their regular Resurrection Day service begins at 10:00 a.m.  and all are welcome. 

St. Peter’s will have several services: 
8:30 a.m. & 11 a.m., an English Mass at 1 p.m., a Spanish mass at 5 p.m., and a Youth Mass at 7 p.m.
