Avoid May Fair Congestion, Park At High School

Help Music Boosters and Quarterback Club: Pay Your $5 Parking Fee

There is a way to avoid downtown congestion for the five days of the Dixon May Fair and the parent volunteers of the Dixon Music Boosters and the Dixon Quarterback Club don’t want it to be a secret.

“Avoid all that usual fair gridlock by taking Pitt School Road to Midway, then turn on Highway 113 back toward the high school,” said Shana Levine, President of the DHS Music Boosters, the organization that started the fundraiser. They will coordinate approximately 100 volunteers, which includes about 35 students, over the five days of fair to provide fair goers parking for $5.00 per car. There is also in and out privileges in case you want to go home and come back later.

“The lot is paved, well lit, and clean,” said Levine. “It will be monitored by numerous volunteers the whole time and Dixon Police will come through on a regular basis.” There will be ADA parking spots and transportation via golf carts to help [wheel chair users] get to the May Fair.

The parking endeavor began when Dixon Unified School District first cut funds that supported school activities including music and sports three years ago.

“The district does not pay for any transportation expenses for our students to go to music competitions, which is about $6,000.00. We need this fundraiser to supplement costs,” said Levine.

This year, Rich Bedoya, President of the Quarterback Club worked to partner on the fundraiser with hopes that over the five days both groups could split as much as $10,000.00.

“The parking pretty much supports the amount of money necessary to supplement what was cut back to these programs,” said Levine. The parking lot fundraiser is progressively getting better because more and more people are finding out about the parking and are taking advantage of it, she said.

The lot will open Wednesday through Friday from noon to midnight. They will also be open on Saturday and Sunday during regular fair hours, 10 a.m. to midnight. Anyone wishing more information can call Levine at (707) 480-8126.
