LIfe's Too Short!

Interesting Mother's Day stats and wishes; the high notes of the DUMC Music Festival; and, get ready to shred!

Mother’s Day? Already?

I work around sweet, giving, devoted mommies. I’ve been so busy with our Mom’s Group on Wednesday mornings, it never dawned on my that this coming Sunday was Mother’s Day so I didn’t do a Mother’s Day tribute, or special, or sale. So, here is my tribute to all of you mothers out there who are doing such a truly wonderful job being mothers to your little ones.

I don’t think it is until you are a “Nana” that you can look back and see how intense those early years are. You’re busy with your new job description and when you’re completely exhausted but your child is tucked in, you are, in fact, going to sleep with an ability to grow a whole bunch more love and patience that sprouts the next morning.

It is a truly lovely thing to witness as an older woman because you know what a miracle that all is and what a true gift children can be. I am amazed when I see younger moms involved with their child’s sports or school or church and I always wonder how they find time. Then I remember they have more energy (like I used to) so are able to do a lot more.

There is hope for our future since there are now 4.1 million women between the ages of 15 and 50 who gave birth in the United States just this past 12 months, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. I had to check out current stats just for the fun of it. Here was another interesting bit: Utah is the state that leads the nation in births with 2,449 births per 1,000 women. Rhode Island is at the opposite end with 1,630 births per 1,000 women.

I hope all the mothers reading this have a very special day.

 Shredding Event Coming

If you’ve done some cleaning out and have boxes of paperwork that need to be destroyed—such as taxes, bank reconciliations, or bills that might have account numbers on them, Atkinson Self Storage, 1800 North First Street is hosting a shredding event on June 22, 10 a.m. to noon.

You will have to get rid of staples or any paperclips but other than that you can basically toss in whole boxes at a time, said Carol Parker, Facility Manager. It is $4 a box and since this is after tax season, there are probably many of us who could unload some file boxes. Call (707) 693-9200 for more information.

Methodist Church Music Festival

One of the more unique experiences in our small town is happening soon. The ‘Ring the Bell Music Festival’ will be held on Saturday, May 18, and is put on by the Dixon United Methodist Church, 209 North Jefferson Street, across from the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.

If you’re thinking it is just the really big church bell that is going to get rung, be assured there is much more to the event than that and it really is a very special kind of 'festival.' The Community and Church Handbell Choirs as well as several “solo Ringers” from around the area will also pitch in to play.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. and offers a special lesson for children, handbell demonstrations, musical performances, a children’s play area, food, and fun. This is a great family activity and is free. For more information, the church phone is 678-2191 or you can check out their Facebook page.
