Getting to Know Kathy King of First Community Mortgage

Kathy King is the Branch Manager at First Community Mortgage, located at 108 North First Street , Downtown Dixon since Jan. 2009. Her more than 30 years banking and mortgage experience assures local home buyers she can help them into a mortgage that will suit their individual needs.

As a community member and advocate, Kathy spends much of her free time as Treasurer for both the Downtown Dixon Business Association and Soroptimist International of Dixon, and staying involved volunteering for Dixon events.

Dixon Patch had the opportunity to get to know her a little bit last week and learn more about what her business has to offer. 

What is your business, and what do you specialize in?

“We are First Priority Financial, doing business as First Community Mortgage. We specialize in residential home loans for both personal and refinance transactions, offering a variety of real estate loans including FHA, VA and Conventional financing, with competitive mortgage rates and low reasonable fees.”

How long have you been in the industry, what made you decide this was the job for you?

“I’ve been in the mortgage industry since 1979. It’s been my lifetime career, so I really don’t know how I decided it was for me. I worked majority of my career, 22 years, at World Savings until it shut down west coast operations. It was an immediate opportunity for me to go into business for myself, that’s when I opened own broker shop, here, in Jan 2009.”

What is your favorite part of your job?

“Being with clients, being able to help them. First time home buyers are really my favorite, being able to get them into their first home is really exciting for me.”

What advice do you have for people looking to buy homes in Dixon?

“Be patient; very, very patient. Inventory is low in Dixon, I believe there are less than 15 homes on the market in town today, so each of them receive multiple offers and go very fast. Make several offers and really just hang in there.”

Who was the headliner for the last concert you attended?

“Mayfair, Creedence Clearwater.”

What is your best memory in helping someone with their real estate purchase?

“Every client is a great memory. Like I said, first time home buyers are always a lot of fun, seeing them get into their first, very own house, but I really enjoy everyone I get to work with.”

If you could vacation anywhere in the world where would you go?

“Europe, I’ve never been and would really like to go. Anywhere in Europe.”

How do you enjoy spending your time off?

“I enjoy golfing, boating, going to the gym; I’m very outdoorsy... and of course shopping. I am also the newly installed Treasurer for Soroptimist International of Dixon. I am heavily involved in what’s happening in our town, so I spend a lot of time with that as well.”

What is your favorite movie?

“Oh man, I have so many. I loved Country Strong, Taken, and the Blind Side”

What is the best part of owning a business Downtown Dixon?

“There are so many good things, other than ideal location and store front. It is exciting to work in the middle of downtown. It is exciting that there is very little vacancies downtown now, so all of our shops all filling up and its great to see businesses doing well. I am also the treasurer for the Downtown Dixon Business Association and really enjoy helping plan and attending all of our downtown events. The wine stroll, which is coming up, the Halloween downtown trick-or-treat is probably my favorite, I love to see all the cute kids dressed up having so much fun collecting candy, the Christmas tree lighting… it is just a really exciting place to be.”
