Dixon Patch's Newest Reporter; Who I Am & What I Hope For From You!

Lindsey Hickman is a Dixon High graduate with strong ties to town. I'm excited to play an active reporting role for Dixon Patch. This is a call to get involved.

Hello Dixon. I'm Lindsey Hickman. I'm very excited to have become part of the Patch family, freelance writing for DixonPatch.com

About me:

I am 28 years old, have been happily married to my husband, Joel Hickman for almost 11 years and we have 3 children. My parents fell in love with Dixon and moved our family here my sophomore year of high school from Fairfield. I attended DHS and Woodland Community College to earn enough high school credits to graduate a year early, in 2000.

I have really always been a writer, winning my first (and only) author award at 7 years old for my first (and only) published book, "Why is the Grass Green," it was followed by many strong articles including, 'Slug in the Cats Water' which I also illustrated.

All joking aside, I really do love writing, and was lucky enough to learn on the job at the Independent Voice as a writer/editor a few years ago. I am excited to be delving back into the Dixon community as part of the media and look forward to bringing you balanced reporting of our politics and events, as well as creating an open forum for your commentary.

As I approach my first annual 29th birthday, it is greatly apparent to me there is a huge generation gap in Dixon. I hope to spark interest from my generation in the future of this town, as we are the one's who will inherit it. As we buy homes here, pay taxes here, and send our children to school here, it is important that we make ourselves aware of decisions that are being made by our City government. Whether you have strong politcal views, or none at all, we should at least be in the know.

I pride myself on being very creative, and could write an entire book on all of the fun things I been privileged to do in my life. From reconditioning old finds at garage sales to large wedding cake decorating; from mud runs like Tough Mudder to my first 1/2 marathon coming up in January; from fishing and shooting to wine tasting; from Java California barista to now, one might agree I fit into many molds, while not truly fitting into any of them.

Please save my email address to your contacts LindseyH.patch@gmail.com, my phone number is 707-365-5804, and contact me with any news or stories you find compelling, upcoming community group events, local happenings and anything else you feel is worthy of a public salute!

I really hope you spend a few minutes clicking around DixonPatch.com; you'll find so much more than news updates available for your use. You can post your own blog-- on any topic you're passionate about (traveling, food, exercise, outdoors, parenting -- get creative), add an event to our public calendar, add photos in our Neighborhood Gallery, and post Annoucements. This website is truly an interactive community forum. Get involved.

Editor's Note: You'll be seeing Lindsey's name a lot around here. She's got a great blend of local knowledge, solid writing skills and energy that will serve her well as a reporter for Dixon Patch.

I want to acknowledge that she is married to the son of Ted Hickman, who is running for city council. Personal connections are impossible to avoid in tight-knit communities like Dixon. With that said, she will cover all city council race issues fairly and accurately, and I'll edit her work before publication. Also, any stories that focus specifically on Ted will be done by me or another freelancer.

Welcome Lindsey in the comments below and share some story ideas with her! - Justin
