Happy 100th Birthday Virginia Rothline!

Assemblymember Mariko Yamada (D-Davis), Chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, welcomes Woodland resident, Virginia Rothline, to the Century Circle as she reached the esteemed age of 100 on Feb. 27.

“It is my privilege to honor and celebrate Ms. Virginia Rothline upon her 100th birthday,” stated Yamada. “Our centenarians have first-hand knowledge and experience in the changing landscape of the Golden State and many have helped to shape the California we know today. As they achieve the special status of centenarian, we owe our respect to people like Ms. Rothline who dedicated three decades to ensuring mail deliveries to the residents of Woodland.”

Virginia Rothline was born Feb. 27, 1914 in Hanford, California. She attended Hanford Joint Union High School and graduated in 1930. Afterwards she moved to San Francisco to attend a business college. In 1935, she married her husband, Dutch Rothline. The Rothlines moved to Woodland in 1946, where Virginia served as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS). She devoted 30 years to USPS, retiring in 1979.

Virginia and Dutch had two daughters, Barbara Bodkin of Woodland and Patricia Cutts of Michigan. Ms. Rothline is the proud matriarch of four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Created in 2010, Assemblymember Yamada launched the Century Circle to identify centenarians throughout the 8th Assembly District. This district program brings attention to the growing number of people 100 years of age and older, their families and those who care for them. This tradition has been continued in the new 4th Assembly District.
