Although it is less than four-months post, the Dixon May Fair board has been hard at work planning for next year. Patch is proud to be the first to announce the 2014 Fair artwork has been chosen, with a "Best of Show" theme.

"We want to celebrate all of our friends and neighbors who bring their best garden produce, crafts, quilts, baked goods, preserves, art and photography, wines, animals and more to compete in the Dixon May Fair," said Patricia Conklin, CEO. The Fair is scheduled for May 8-11, 2014.

As one of the oldest Fairs in California, the Dixon May Fair has a long tradition of showcasing the amazing talents of the residents of Solano County. The Best of Show theme honors the competitive exhibits and livestock shows that are an integral part of any county fair.

There are hundreds of categories that have changed over the years to reflect the lifestyles and skills of the community.  Recent competition has included technology skills, organic gardening, home wine-making, and digital photography for example.

Traditional categories such as jams and jellies, pies, quilts, and garden produce remain popular.

The Dixon May Fair would like to invite the public to suggest new categories they would like to see at the Fair.

I think the Dixon May Fair would be more successful by getting back to more big-name entertainment. It would draw more people from farther away. Larry

Issues with big names are, when they fail the fail big. Where with smaller acts losses can be absorbed. I suggest that they look at festival styled event...many smaller groups on two stages in rotation. Blue Grass on one stage on a particular day with say Southern Rock on another stage. There is less of a liability risk with the smaller groups.

Have a talent show like American Idol with the audience voting. Have some "replica" bands come in, like Grateful Dead, Beatles, Elvis, et al.

I would like to suggest an agricultural theme showcasing the local growers for the fair this year something that takes us to the roots of the town and the valley for that matter I always tell people about my town if they like Campells tomato soup or Orville Redenbacher popcorn they've had a taste of Dixon. I feel lucky to raise my family around that
