Larry the Cable Guy Gits-R-Done at the Dixon May Fair

Outfitted in his signature sleeveless flannel shirt and camouflage hunting hat, Larry the Cable Guy charmed a large Dixon May Fair audience Saturday night with his outlandish brand of redneck comedy during an hour and 10 minute set.

The entertainment began with comic Reno Collier, who succeeded admirably in warming up the sun-weathered crowd as people continued to trickle in. After a 25-minute set, Collier passed the mic over to Larry, who announced his arrival by hollering out his infamous “Git R Done” catchphrase, to much applause.

As the sun went down and the temperatures cooled off, Larry found his groove, rallying against political correctness in a silly and fun manner. He covered topics ranging from the McRib sandwich at McDonald's, to the quality of dollar store toilet paper, and every crude topic in between. Needless to say, fans of “bathroom humor” did not leave disappointed.

When he's on stage, Larry the Cable Guy is like that one crazy relative in every family who always manages to say the wrong thing at the wrong time, but has a good heart, and family get-togethers just wouldn’t be the same without them.

He is almost apologetic in his comedy, asking the audience to forgive him after some of his more groan-inducing jokes—a class clown who literally can’t help himself. At the end of the day though, he is an endearing character, and widely popular. People don’t know what is going to come out of his mouth next, but they always want to hear it.

As the show simmered down, there were even a few moments of sincerity, as the comedian talked about how much his children meant to him, a touching addition. The show ended with Larry thanking the Dixon May Fair for all the support, and as the audience gave him a standing ovation, Larry tossed his hat into the crowd in appreciation.
