Ms. Scheuring has taught at Dixon High for over 9 years, with assignments in math in addition to her current duties.  Her work in AVID, in particular, was what prompted Dixon High Principal Nick Girimonte to nominate her for this honor.  AVID is a program focused on assisting students with preparation for college and ensuring students’ ability to enroll in and complete a college program.

Commenting on Ms. Scheuring, Mr. Girimonte said, “When you walk into Angela Scheuring’s AVID class, you immediately know that this is a place of high expectations.  From the college posters and pennants, to the infectious enthusiasm of the teacher, kids know that this is the place that will catapult them to the dream of college.  During her time as AVID teacher, Mrs. Scheuring’s dedication to her students has resulted in hundreds enrolling in universities they wouldn’t have even considered were it not for her.  She believes that all kids, regardless of background, can and will reach their fullest potential—and as a result, they do.”

Cecilia Rosa serves as a Parent Liaison at both Gretchen Higgins Elementary and Anderson Elementary, and as a Physical Education Assistant and Playground Monitor at Anderson Elementary.  She has worked in different configurations of these roles for eight years. Mrs. Rosa was nominated by both of the Principals for whom she works, Tracy Linyard and Susan Girimonte.   As a Parent Liaison, Mrs. Rosa helps to promote parental involvement in the schools and facilitates communication between the school site and parents.  Her work as a Physical Education Assistant and Playground Monitor engages Mrs. Rosa in direct supervision and support of students from all grade levels during P.E. and at recess.

Superintendent Brian Dolan, who has worked directly with Mrs. Rosa at Anderson Elementary, said of her, “Cecilia is like the world’s most sophisticated and valuable Swiss Army Knife.  If either of the schools where she works needs something done, even unusual or difficult tasks, she always finds a way to do it and do it well.  She serves students, staff, and parents with intelligence, warmth, and compassion.  We are lucky to have her!”

Ms. Scheuring and Mrs. Rosa will be honored at a reception sponsored by the Solano County Office of Education.  The reception will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at 5:15 PM at the Joseph A. Nelson Community Center, 611 Village Drive in Suisun City. The reception will begin with an introduction of each candidate and presentations commemorating his/her nomination.
