Cause of El Verduzco Fire Deemed Accidental

The Dixon Fire Department investigation determined that the fire that destroyed El Verduzco Mexican restaurant was accidental in nature.

The fire that destroyed El Verduzco Saturday was accidentally caused, said Dixon Fire Chief Aaron McAlister.

"It originated in the kitchen, and specifically the stove," McAlister wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "Some appliances were found in the on position."

The department estimates the loss at $300,000. However, on Saturday, El Verduzco owner Everardo Angel was awaiting an insurance person to come and assess the damage caused by the fire.

El Verduzco was one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in town. When news of its destruction became known, many readers expressed their dismay over the loss of their favorite restaurant.

The footage attached to this video was taken on Saturday, as Angel and several of his employees and family members were planning what to do next.

Angel has vowed to re-open the restaurant in the near future. He has owned El Verduzco for the past 10 years and employeed about 10 people in Dixon. The restaurant however, has been serving up Mexican favorites to hungry Dixonites for much longer, he said.
