Dissapointed that Dixon has not promoted their local boy Jon Pardi as well as they shoul have. HeRead More would pack the beer gardens at the May Fair before he ventured off to Nashville to persure his dream. And as fas as people being concerned about there being no big time artist; lets be hosest, there has never really been big time artist at the May fair. Last year- Snoop, Larry the Cable guy. Snood is a hip-hop ledgend but he has not put out anything good in years. Larry the Cable Guy, not funny! And past acts such as Ashley Simpson and Trace Adkins did not sale. I was at Trace Adkins-people were walking out after Merle Haggard. I have seen Jon Pardi lay several times and her never dissapoints! Always puts on a great show. He has been on tour several well known country artists like Luke Bryan, Eric Church and just completed the Outlaws Like Me tour with Justin Lynch. I urge everyone to go and check him out tonight!!!

No big-name performers? I've honestly been checking the website every other day waiting to see whatRead More awesome performer the fair would have this year. What a bummer!
Ian Arnold April 26, 2013 at 06:20 pm
I've attended some of the performances and certainly the Thursday night shows were underattended.Read More There are a couple of recent appointees to the Mayfair Board; perhaps they wanted to experiment with a different format. If attendance drops because of the lack of name acts, we'll probably see the big names back next year. (At least that's my guess.) As far as local talent, Gary has a list, but there are also local boys Force of Habit (recent winners of the San Francisco Battle of the Bands and many other rock, hip-hop, country and etc. bands in Dixon and the immediate surroundings.

So proud of you Zenaida ..you are a female warrior! Thank God u are safe and back with your angelRead More Cristia Isabel.

In all fairness without the Friends of the Fair. I think the fall would not have survived the pastRead More 10 years.
Gary Erwin May 12, 2013 at 06:19 pm
I understood that....seems that some % ought to be considered now that the state funding has goneRead More down. Really all I care about it the health of the Fair and Fairgrounds. I don't care about the details that much...just that it is being done right so that the Fair can continue.
Greg Coppes May 11, 2013 at 11:45 am
No, All proceeds go to the friends of the fair. The Fair has no control over how those funds areRead More used. They are not charged rent or fee's. Granted a lot of the money is used for Fair grounds improvements.
Roberto May 3, 2013 at 01:52 pm
Not a problem, go with pressure cookers! Add a couple back straps and you have a waterproofRead More container that also serves as an ice chest for some snacks, and that cold beer after the race.
Jonathan Koolpe May 2, 2013 at 07:01 pm
Truly, the participants should boycott the race over this asinine backpack ban. I'm not a runner,Read More but I would do so if I had previously had plans to attend this event. But I already boycott doing any business in SF over the unconstitutional red light cameras and the OUTRAGEOUS fines that they have imposed for these pernicious, non-human devices so I guess this is just another reason to not visit SF.
Bil Paul May 2, 2013 at 04:18 pm
Since we want to sanitize the race as much as possible and remove any public concern about bombings,Read More we must take the name "Breakers" out of Bay to Breakers. "Breakers" could imply the possibility of someone getting hurt.

We are lucky it doesn't go past Ceremello's house. That would definitely peg us as urban slum.

Lori, I was not addressing your Farm/Ranch. Though you do need to have a future plan for yourRead More property. I know of a few farms on the North East side of the tracks that will someday have to go to a”plan B”. I was addressing the more industrial properties. They seem to be the real eyesore. Might be novel for the City, when it can, to buy up some of the properties around town that seem to be at issue and rehabilitate them to the extent that someone else can develop them and keep them up.

Na... that's not the point .. a wall would just be a big covered job ... Dixon country area isRead More beautiful .. it's just to bad that not everyone can keep it clean it orderly ... I guess it's like out of sight out of mine... Then comes Amtrak seeing it all ... Good ! Maybe this is what is needed to get with the program and not Dixon go down the drain ! I loved been able to see the big picture ... :)

I believe that the purpose of a service is to provide something of value, not just to employ peopleRead More in a task that can be easily accomplished by a piece of equipment or machinery. Riveting was replaced by welding, we don’t need buggy whip makers anymore because we use cars in lieu of horse drawn carriages and sheet rock and tape replaced the people who used to apply plaster in buildings. At one time perhaps a quarter to a third of our population was on the farm and they were replaced by machinery. It’s called progress.

It's strange how the company says it will save money with all the money it is collecting by gettingRead More rid of few workers sometimes technology does not pay.

I agree withB.Smith. This Supreme Court does not support Prop. 8 and will pass it on to anotherRead More level or back to the lower courts.
DAVID CASEY March 27, 2013 at 03:03 pm
I agree with B.Smith. This Supreme Court is out of touch with the public in California.
Kristin Land March 27, 2013 at 11:37 am
Unconstitutional on all counts! Prop 8 thrown out!
David A. Davis March 26, 2013 at 05:34 pm
Joe you are 100% correct. Reference any 2 to 4 billion dollar project....... i.e. Apple 2 Campus inRead More Cupertino, LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal, Willets Point Development Project in New York and you will find that from purchase of land to completion and occupancy is 2 to 3 times the timeline Morning View is claiming. This topic has everything to do with my experience (38 years of commerical big job sub-contracting) and simply cannot be built by January 2015. A realistic timeline would be 5 to 7 years from this date forward. That is of course if the funding is available. The environmental impact study required by the State of California could bring things to a grinding halt indefinitely along with several other hurdles inherent in a project of this scope. City Council meetings are about to get very popular.....dave
Gary Erwin March 24, 2013 at 08:37 pm
Joe, don't confuse the library blunder with the City Council. I do understand your point. Trust meRead More when the whole enchilada is out there in front of you steaming...you'll like it. The net effect on the city will be positive.
Gary Erwin March 24, 2013 at 08:29 pm
Josh my understanding is "everything under one roof" and this makes sense knowing theRead More condition of both VFX and Practical Efx. Both areas have and continue to take hit after hit.

Paying a person to 'buy' their time to come to your home, or ?? to care for your most belovedRead More valuable in Life, is all a matter left to the Parent. Sure, you can review the guidelines set by some averages, areas, and calculations, but,,, bottom line is, it is what is within your budget and the agreement you have between you and your provider. If you want a credentialed nurse, teacher or professional, to come in, you will be paying more than you will be by hiring a high school student. I am a Caregiver/Nanny, my rates depend on the situation. I am a Mother/Grandmother, CPR/FirstAid certified and have a mile long list of experience and references. Personally, I will not work on a basis of a flat fee and variable hours. My time is charged by the time I spend, my duties, etc. Each party should communicate and agree on all aspects of responsibilities and payment. Taking care of someone's child is the most important job I have ever had. The Responsibility of it is Immense! If you are looking for someone to care for your Baby, whether 3 months, or 12 years old, please be sure that their PRIORITY is that Child, and NOT anything else! Check references and background, and when you are happy with that individual's care, please show them you are. They are there because they need the money. A few dollars shows your Caregiver that you Appreciate them, and if you can not spare that extra couple of bucks, you may want to rethink leaving your loved one with anyone at all...

I pay 30$ per day per a kid. Sometimes they are watched for 2 hours sometimes depending if thereRead More off track it can be 9 hours.. I think it's fair and I'm happy with it. However it's only a couple days a week.
Jenny Kobold March 18, 2013 at 06:30 pm
In addition to being a mother of three, I'm a formerly credentialed elementary school teacher,Read More trained Girl Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher and respite care giver for those with special needs. To pay me the $10.50 an hour this calculator suggests for my area would be a slap in the face to me. I don't just sit around and watch children (of any age) watch TV or play computer games. I play and work with children, thus leaving them better off for having spent time with me. I'm currenly watching a ten-year-old two weeks a month, and am currently teaching her how to sew and bake homemade bread. The $12.00 an hour I charge is well worth it for the time I put in. I strongly feel that the amount paid for any child care job should be calculated based on the providers' training, experience, and how they spend their time with children.

I'll give up my gas lawnmower when they unwrap my cold, dead hands from around the handle.
Babaloo March 16, 2013 at 04:15 pm
sign the petition,,,and kill more trees... this is actually ridiculousRead More discussion...wow.."boobby the racist" must be involved ...oh,,there he is,,,the lawn mower must NOT be black,,and a RACIST LAWN mower...
Babaloo March 16, 2013 at 04:13 pm
yeah thats a great idea..PUNISH all of us who like a gas mower to pay more,,so the other people canRead More use their crappy electric mower..electric mower's actually cost more. the pollution created by generating the electricity is actually more than the lawn mowers generate...hmm...now thats real thought.

That or a person? We all know where to get our widow chips fixed and the only place to get pizza forRead More $5 I Dixon it's that chain. I like that its a man!
