Myers said the idea for the Prayer Walk came to him after reading Mark Batterson’s book “Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears.” In the book, Batterson says “Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn’t just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It’s a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us,” according to a description of the book on Amazon.com.

Batterson tells of the legend of Honi the Circle Maker – a man who drew a circle in the sand and would not leave the inside of it until God answered his prayers. In the book, Batterson asks his readers what impossible dream they have that God is calling them to draw a prayer circle around, according to the book’s description.
