Living Hope Church's First Prayer Walk a Success in Dixon

The first-ever prayer walk in Dixon was well-attended by members of and the community of Dixon.

The goal was simple -- walk and pray for the City of Dixon, the schools, businesses, students and families. Over 40 people gathered at Saturday, the starting point of the 11-mile walk.

Dixon's Police Chief Jon Cox, who is also serving at the city's interim city manager, kicked off the walk by thanking everyone for their commitment and dedication to the community.

"He shared a devotional thought and scripture with everyone and prayed over our pastor," said Jamie Myers, Living Hope Church member. "At that point (Pastor) Jeff led a group prayer as our entire group gathered around Chief Cox and prayed for him, his family and his leadership in Dixon."

From the parking lot of Dixon High, the walkers strolled through the streets of Dixon in kinship and prayer. Not everyone walked the 11 miles, Myers said.

"There were six who biked, a couple of babies in strollers, six teens, five kids and the rest were adults," Myers said. "About 25 people walked or biked the entire 11 miles and the others walked a portion, including Chief Cox. Living Hope is very proud of our congregation for giving so much of their time and energy to show love support to our community."

Myers said that some brought their dogs out for a walk and others rode skateboards and rollerblades. The idea for the prayer walk came to Pastor Jeff Myers after reading the book “Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears.”

In the book, the author Mark Batterson tells readers that even the most impossible dream can be achieved through faith and prayer. Myers put the call out to the community and his congregation to join the Prayer Walk, and took prayer requests for those who were unable to attend.
