Help Scouts by Recycling Your Tree

Dixon Boys Offer Two Dates; Recology Dixon Another Option

Christmas Tree recycling in Dixon will once again be offered on two different days thanks to the local Dixon Boy Scout Troop 152 for a $10 donation or $15 for a flocked tree.

“We’ve been doing this fundraiser since about 1989 and we’ll have between 12 to 20 boys involved,” said Scoutmaster John Waldeck.

“We use the trunks for firewood throughout the year [at camps and events] and the needles go to green waste,” he said. “People like to use them as compost in their yards and gardens.”

The pick up will begin early Saturday morning, December 31. There will also be another pick up on Saturday, January 7. Residents need to schedule their pick up by calling (707) 678-9693 and leave their name, phone number, address, and which one of the two dates they desire the tree pick up.

Residents are also invited to use their email to make their reservation. They can send that same info in an email to Scoutmaster152@gmail.com.  They can also visit their website (www.troop152dixon.com) where there is a link to the “Tree Donation” form that can be filled out and submitted by just hitting the submit button.

The Dixon Troop also works with the Vacaville Troops especially for those addresses in the rural areas. For more information and a collection area map, call the Recycling Information Line at (707) 454-5705.

also picks up trees for the first week after Christmas but does not pick up flocked trees at all. If the tree is five feet or over, it has to be cut in half and all the tinsel must be removed, said Recology staff. Residents can set it next to their green toter on their regularly scheduled garbage pick up day.
