Dixon Teen Center Gets Donation

Kiwanis Wants Safe Saturday Night Fun for Youth

About 75 middle school students were having fun at the Friday night and witnessed a giant check made out for five hundred dollars being handed over to Jeff Myers of the Teen Center Committee. The donation was brought by a handful of Dixon Kiwanis Club members.

"All of this would not be possible without the help of businesses and organizations donating to this center because they care about you," said Myers who is also a Pastor and Living Hope Church in Dixon. The students offered cheers to show their appreciation.

"There are 93 countries with Kiwanis Clubs dedicated to bettering their community through serving children--from babies to teens," said Dixon Kiwanis Club President Marnie Nessen. "We did this because we want you to have somewhere safe to have fun on Saturday nights." Dixon Police Chief Jim Cox was also present to accept the funds along with other Teen Center Committee Members Debbie Cornfield, Rich Hydo, LC Cunningham and Jeff's wife, Jaime Myers.

The Teen Center Committee has trained approximately 30 volunteers that help man the weekend time the center is open but the leaders are looking for more people to get involved and help so they can open it more hours. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Cathy Morris at (707) 678-2191.
