Special to Dixon Patch

In a time of economic uncertainty and budget woes, one Dixon nonprofit group turned to a Facebook contest for a bit of help.

Dixon Family Services was recently given a $2,500 check from Umpqua Bank.  The grant was a result of an entry in Umpqua Bank’s “Share Your Volunteer Story” Facebook contest.  In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 16 – 21), volunteers were asked to tell where they give their time and why.  Annie Moore posted:

“I volunteer my time preparing taxes for low-income families and individuals in Solano County through Dixon Family Services (DFS).  DFS has been providing this free service to tax payers for 7 years now.  It is a wonderful program, and to see an individual’s face light up when they find out how much of a refund they are getting back and to find out they do not have to pay for this service is very rewarding.”

Non-profit organizations mentioned in posts were eligible for a $2,500 grant. Dixon Family Services was one of 10 selected for the grant, which was awarded on May 29 at the Umpqua Bank store.
