4th Annual Car, Bike Show to Crank Up the Fun on the Fourth of July

Dixon Youth Football and Cheer is putting on a car/bike show this Monday, the Fourth of July, at the Dixon May Fair grounds, with the gates opening at 11:00 am. A 6 p.m., demolition derby and fireworks show will add to the fun.

The 4th Annual Dixon Charity "Show & Shine" Car/Bike show is set for July 4th at the Dixon Fairgrounds, where car, truck, and motorcycle enthusiasts will show off their vehicles starting at 11:00 am when the fairgrounds open to the public.

Fairgoers can expect live music, a waterslide, jolly-jumpers, a raffle, and the food booths to accompany the car and bike show, with all proceeds from the fair going towards various Solano County nonprofits.

"The money from the car/bike show goes to underprivileged kids' scholarships,” said Dixon Youth Football and Cheer Athletic Director Jeff Clay. “We don’t buy equipment with the money; we strictly fund kids who can’t afford to play. It goes to the parents, who come out to the show to work for us. It goes towards their kid’s scholarship. They come out and work eight hours for the day, and their kid gets to play football or cheer."

Participants in the car/bike show are encouraged to get to the fairgrounds early to set up due to the popularity of this event in past years, with the early arrivals receiving prizes such as t-shirts, dash plaques and posters.

"It’s getting larger and larger every year,” said Clay. “This year we’re expecting anywhere from 125-175 cars. Last year we had 135. We take up the whole fairgrounds. The motorcycle show will be held indoors because it’s easier to park your bikes in there, the cars are parked outside, and you can walk right in the main gate."

There will be a raffle drawing at 3 p.m., where tickets to concerts and races at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma are among the prizes. The results of the judging will also be announced at 3 p.m., with awards given out to car and truck owners for Best in Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Motor, Best Stock, Best Custom, and Player's Choice, and various others.

Motorcycles are eligible to win awards for Best in Class, Best Antique, Best Chopper, Best Sportster, Best Custom, and more.

A demolition derby and fireworks show will cap the night off for those who stick around after the car/bike show.

"I encourage everybody to come out,” said Clay. “It’s a local event and a charity event. We’re out there to raise money. One hundred percent of all the money goes to charity, nobody pockets anything. It’s free entrance for anyone that wants to show up. We just ask that you come hungry or thirsty so we can make some money on our food sales."

Part of the fun activities at the May Fair grounds will include a demolition derby, scheduled for 6 p.m. As the temperatures cool down Monday and day turns into night, Dixonites will enjoy a fantastic fireworks show to cap off the Fourth of July weekend.
