Why are There No Major Music Acts at This Year's Dixon May Fair?

Here's why there will be no national acts like last year's Snoop Dogg and Larry the Cable Guy.

 

There won't be any huge national acts headlining this year's Dixon May Fair. Instead, local boy Jon Pardi will return from Nashville to play at no additional cost to fair goers.

The Dixon May Fair has been fortunate in the past have had success with the concerts they have produced, however the economic climate and the competition for entertainment dollars has made it exceedingly difficult, especially since losing all State funding in 2011.

Competition for conceerts and entertainment come from area casinos, the Sleep Train Arena, and the Sleep Train Amphitheater.  Now, this year, the huge 3-day Bottle Rock Concert in Napa is being held during the Dixon May Fair and would have significantly affected attendance of concerts during the Fair.

Instead, the Dixon May Fair, which is the oldest agriculture Fair in the State, is focusing on its roots of showcasing the community and providing two new action-packed events in the Coors Light Grandstands that are based in agriculture - professional bull riding and tractor pulls. The Fair is also giving back to the community by offering the Jon Pardi concert at no additional charge as it is included with Fair admission.
