Learn Scintillating Specifics of Salmon and Steelhead
Saturday is California Free Fishing Day
Something fishy will be making a splash this Saturday, July 7 at Lake Solano Regional Park. Whether you’re a small fry or big lunker, come out to hear the scintillating specifics of salmon and steelhead science by volunteer Barbara Cooper at the Lake Solano Nature Center. Do you know the difference between a steelhead and a salmon? Do fish have a sense of smell? Does a steelhead lay eggs or have live young at birth? The answer to these questions and more will be discussed in a hands-on program that families will be sure to enjoy.
Saturday is also a California Free Fishing Day throughout the state. Pack your fishing pole, some tackle gear and perhaps a picnic lunch for after the program. Try your luck at catching a fish in Putah Creek, Lake Berryessa or one of the hundreds of rivers or streams throughout California. In these difficult economic times, anglers can fish on this day without having to purchase a sport fishing license. All other fishing regulations such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, reporting requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect.
The salmon/steelhead program will be conducted at 10:00 am on the grassy area next to the Lake Solano Park Nature Center at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road Winters, CA. The presentation is free, but parking is $5 per vehicle, payable across the road at the entrance to the day use area. No RSVP is necessary. For questions in advance, call 707-432-0150 x200or email volunteer@SolanoLandTrust.org. For same-day information, call 530-795-2990.
