Varsity Baseball Bests VCS

Dixon Varsity Baseball wins home opener vs. VCS.

After a shaky opening 1 1/3 innings, the Dixon Rams varsity baseball squad finally pitched and persevered, downing the visiting Vacaville Christian Falcons 8-6.

VCS capitalized on a total of five walks and three Ram errors en route to an early four run cushion. Cue the Rams - led both early (offensively) and late (on the mound) Angel Lara was a one-man force. Lara's arching triple to right-centerfield sparked a two-run Ram uprising. He later scored a run to cut the Falcon lead to 6-5.

C.J. McLaughlin, Korey Hall and Lara teamed for three hits and two runs in the pivotal fourth, enabling Dixon to take there first lead 7-6.

Taylor Landis started for Dixon on the mound, survived the first inning and ended his 2011 debut by allowing one run in the second. Landis achieved the 60 pitch count he was assigned, allowing the final Falcon run on two hits while striking out the side.

Sophomore Matthew Rebholtz restored order on the hill by facing six hitters in his two innings of work. Rebholtz was aided by a line-drive double play started by Landis who was moved to first base. Rebholtz picked up the win with a solid, spot hitting, effort.
