Nature Walk at Lake Solano

Join a free, guided nature walk at Lake Solano Park on Saturday, June 11 from 10am to noon.  It’s sure to be a fun and educational experience for all ages!  Guided tours of Lake Solano Park are offered throughout the summer and fall from 10am to noon on the second Saturdays and fourth Sundays of each month

Lake Solano volunteer Frank Morris will lead this short, easy-paced tour.  Morris is a water expert who will bring the lake to life with an interactive display of its fascinating plants, insects, and other creatures. He’ll pass around magnifying lenses so that participants can observe the colors, shapes and movements of Lake Solano’s aquatic life in exquisite detail.

The group will explore the forest that borders the lake, and discuss the summer-time plants and animals that call this habitat home.  In addition to this natural history, participants will reflect on how the water and forest were important to early Native American ways of life, and how our modern towns and cities depend on these same resources.

These tours are a great opportunity to have fun, learn, and get healthy exercise. Participants should carry water and snacks with them. They should be prepared for variable trail conditions and weather by bringing layered clothes, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and protection from sun, and the chance of wind, fog, or rain. A camera and binoculars are also recommended.  After the tour guests can continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife at Lake Solano Park by picnicking for the day, or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tour will begin in the courtyard next to the Lake Solano Park Nature Center at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road Winters, CA.  The tour is free, but parking is $5 per vehicle, payable across the road on the other side of the park.  No RSVP is necessary.  For questions in advance, call 707-432-0150 x200 or email volunteer@SolanoLandTrust.org.  For same-day information, call 530-795-2990.
