21st Annual Open House at Rush Ranch

 Bring all the family to Rush Ranch this Saturday, April 30th from 10am to 4pm for the 21st Annual Open House, plus star gazing from 7 to 10pm.  This jam-packed day is hosted by the Rush Ranch Educational Council and Solano Land Trust.

Old time music and square dancing will set toes tapping. Expert guides will lead marsh walks and bird watching.  Live animals will be on display, including bats, falcons, horses, cattle and sheep.  Interactive demonstrations will include blacksmithing, horseshoeing, Native American tool creation, wheat weaving, wool spinning, and windmills.  Guests can pot plants for their homes and gardens.

A horse-drawn wagon and solar-powered wheelchair lift will enable people of all mobility levels to tour the ranch. Raffle winners will leave with prizes.  Guests can shop for t-shirts, patches, and handbooks, and purchase snacks.  On top of it all, children can create art while adults enjoy a local art show and shop for paintings and photographs to take home that same day.  Proceeds of the day support the educational programs and projects of the Rush Ranch Educational Council. 

After the day-time festivities, guests can stay or circle back at 7pm to enjoy a night with the stars and planets.  An astronomy presentation starts at 7pm in the Nature Center, followed by outdoor viewing until 10pm.

Rush Ranch admission and parking is free.  Water, a bag lunch, and insect repellent are recommended. Rush Ranch stretches across 2,000 acres of marsh and rolling grassland on the northeast edge of the Suisun Marsh, one of the best remaining examples of a brackish tidal marsh habitat in the United States.  Rush Ranch is owned and operated by Solano Land Trust.  

Note: Please leave dogs at home during the Open House.  On other days, dogs on leash are allowed in the courtyard and on Suisun Hill Trail.
