Dixon's Spencer Currey recently placed 4th in the 13th Annual Peninsula Indoor Rowing Championship held in Redwood City.
Currey, a Dixon High School sophomore, placed with a time of 6:38.9.
Competitors rowed 2,000 meters against the clock in various categories that included Men’s and Women’s Open, Lightweight, and Novice divisions. The ergometer, know as an erg, is an indoor rowing machine, is a machine used to simulate the action of watercraft rowing for the purpose of exercise or training for rowing.
Indoor rowing has become established as a sport and is utilized by crew team within their training regime.
Currey trains with the River City Rowing Club (http://rivercityjuniors.org/ ) in West Sacramento.
Last year Currey was selected as a member of the USRowing Team Development Camp as well as having placed 5th in the Men's pair at the Youth Nationals.
