Dixon High Swim Team Ends Season on Top of the Golden Empire League

Dixon swimmers swam their way to the top of the GEL standings this season.

Dixon High School's swimmers were the best in the entire Golden Empire League this season.

The GEL recently released its 2012 rankings and Dixon ranked at the top. Swim coach Adrienne Anderson, along with boys coach Gabe Villasenor, have helped Dixon's swimmers hone their skills to become champions, both in and outside of the pool.

"I  thought the season was really successful," Anderson said. "We don't have a lot of competition in the GEL, as far as swimming is concerned. We always have a really strong swim team in Dixon."

The Dixon Rams' swim team is comprised of 44 swimmers Anderson said. Recently, the Rams dominated the GEL Championships held Saturday, April, 21, at the Pat Granucci Aquatic Center in Dixon.

The Rams scored the most during the championships with the girls and boys earning 1344 points in 22 events. Dixon swimmers won 15 of the 22 events, according to Anderson.

Overall, Dixon swimmers were ranked first in the eight-school GEL. Dixon's Austin Anderson was named the Varsity Boy MVP, and Coaches Villasenor and Anderson were named 2012 Coaches of the Year (Villasenor for boys, Anderson for girls' coach).

Check out the standings in the attached file.

"I thought it was a great season, the kids swam well," Anderson said. "We had tons of improvement from the lower ranks of the swim team on up."

Since coach Anderson and Villasenor are considered temporary coaches, they will need to re-apply for the coaching position come next season at DHS.

Anderson said she hopes to be coaching the swim team alongside Coach Villasenor, whom together have been coaching swimming at DHS as well as the Dixon Dolphins summer league for nine seasons, next season.

The coaches are preparing for an awards banquet to take place Sunday for the swimmers.

Didn't O'Reilly's just close on the other side of town? There's a 'for lease' sign on the building.

Great to see the 4th graders getting ready for their 5th grade camp at Alliance Redwoods. I took myRead More 6th graders there for many years and Alliance has an outstanding program that keeps the kids focused on environmental education and stewardship. The night hike through the redwoods was always their favorite (along with the zip line). Note: No need to bring snacks as the dining hall meals has everything you will need, but you may want to bring some extra money for the gift shop. Dan Mattingly/Retired Teacher

Thanks for the post Dean. The Dixon VFW has contributed several thousand dollars so far to bothRead More homes in Dixon and will be contributing a lot more in the future for these Vets. The housing program is managed by the North Bay Coummity Action Council (formerly known as the Fairfield/Suisun CAC). The Vets are very grateful for all the community support.
