DHS Cross Country: Varsity Boys Cruise to Sub Section Crown, Beating Out 19 Schools

The Dixon High boys varsity cross country captured the Division IV California Interscholastic Federation Sub Section title at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds last Saturday.

The Rams beat out 20 other teams, placing five runners in the top 40 in a field of 137 runners and finishing with the lowest total time of 1:28:27 around the three mile course.

Anthony McDermott was Dixon’s highest finisher, placing third with a time of 19:37. Coy Chance finished sixth in 17:12. Gonzalo Morales Lomeli placed 20th, crossing the line in 17:52. All Rams' runners finished the course in less than 20 minutes.

The top 10 teams at the varsity level will advance to the section final at the Willow Hill Cross Country Cross in Folsom on Friday, with events slated to start at 9 a.m., and Dixon scheduled to run with the D-4 boys at 1:10 p.m. The boys varsity team last won the sub section title in 1996.

Dixon’s varsity girls finished 12th and will not advance to the section final.

Viridiana Munoz led Rams runners with a 16th place finish in a time of 21:04. Jessica Hein was 44th in 22:39 and Rebbeca Immel was 45th with a time of 22:42.

Dixon’s JV boys finished seventh, but needed a sixth place finish to advance.

Alan Sanders led JV Rams’ runners with a time of 19:52 and a 35th place finish and Spencer Curry was 38th in 20:06.
