“The more I talk to Joe, the more I realize he really wants to do what’s best for all the kids” said Gabby.  “He’s done his homework on the budget and performance issues and has some great ideas.”

According to DiPaola “John and I have had our differences over some issues, but overall I respect John and his viewpoint. He’s grown into the position and has provided some real leadership, particularly as president of the board.  We can absolutely work together and bring about change for the better.”

Gabby — the incumbent — and DiPaola are two of the three candidates vying for two open positions.  Those elected will serve as the Trustees of the Dixon Unified School District as well as the Dixon Library Board.

The Library Board is currently reviewing a controversial $20 million plan to move the façade of the historic building, demolish the original building and expand the current library.

DiPaola supports the preservation of the entire Carnegie structure and its historic designation; Gabby has said he’s interested in preserving as much of the original building as possible.

Wednesday’s announcement follows on the heels of what’s been called a “historic” endorsement of both candidates by the employee associations representing Dixon’s teachers and classified school employees.
