Dixon High School Makes Backup Grad Plan

Last Year's Weather Elicits Creation of Plan B

After running our calendar of the big events for Dixon, we got an email from the Dixon High School Principal John Barsotti thanking us for including the high school events but also letting us know of a back up plan for this year’s graduation ceremony in case of weather trouble.

If you remember, last year there was a rainstorm and the very morning of the graduation ceremonies, there was a downpour. Despite that the Unified School District Officials had declared just a few days earlier that the graduation ceremony was on “rain or shine” they hadn’t meant down pour. It was simply too dangerous to do and the entire ceremony was cancelled. It was later scheduled for Wednesday of that next week.

Needless to say there was quite a few very unhappy seniors and their families. Kudos to the staff, the district, and especially Principal Barsotti for helping to have Plan B in place. Here it is:

Graduation Ceremonies are scheduled for 9:00am on Saturday June 2, 2012 at Finney Field.

The alternate date and time--to be used only if hazardous conditions exist on the morning of June 2 on Finney Field--is Monday June 4, 2012 at 6:00 pm at Finney Field--if Finney Field conditions are then safe.

Or, if Finney Field conditions are not safe, then the ceremonies will be held in the Dixon High School Gym.

“In the case that we need to use the gym for graduation ceremonies, each senior family will be issued three, or possibly four, tickets to distribute to family and friends,” Barsotti said. “My hope is that announcing this ahead of time will allow families to arrange travel plans accordingly and minimize confusion.”
