DHS Juniors, Freshmen Win Powderpuff Games

Homecoming Week festivities were hyped up with Wednesday's Powderpuff Games

Dixon High School’s football fans got a treat at the Powderpuff Game Wednesday. Four teams faced off in all with the freshmen versus the sophomores and the juniors versus the seniors.

Wednesday's first game pitted freshmen versus sophomores. The freshmen team took first possession from the sophomores and seemed to control the game from that point on.

Thanks to a nearly 70-yard run by freshmen running back Olivia Ramirez within two minutes of the start of the game. The first touchdown of the night was scored by freshmen Brooke Radley.

The sophomores were able to score a touchdown in their next possession thanks to Alicia Sanchez. Unfortunately, that was the last of the Sophomore’s success at Finney Field. Freshmen quarterback Jillian Raycraft led her team to another touchdown also scored by Olivia Ramirez, despite multiple fumbled hikes.

The seniors versus juniors game immediately followed the first game. It started with a bang with a touchdown by junior Nicole Deusenberry. That set the precedent for the rest of the game, as the juniors continued to score again and again.

Several seniors were crying foul about the junior’s success.

“The refs need to be paying more attention to the juniors!” shouted Senior Natalie Vergara over the sound of the game, however the end of the game was 24-6, with the juniors taking victory.

All four teams had their own squads of cheerleaders, all of which were near shirtless young men wearing skin-tight short shorts. Two of the squads had prepared actual cheerleading routines that involved launching a few of the teammates into the air and successfully catching them.

There were also several rounds of nudity-free, underwear-clad streaking from the senior boys during and around the half-time break.

Dixon High Vice Principal Nick Girimonte said he looks forward to the game because, “it’s a good opportunity for the community to come out and support our kids.”

The Associated Student Body of Dixon High School was happy to report that the event was a terrific success as it had come in way under budget and had an excellent attendance, raising an estimated $550.

Tonight, the DHS Rams face off against the West Campus Warriors. Gametime starts at 6:30 p.m., for the JV game, with the Varsity team taking the field shortly after. The festivities will include a fireworks show, the homecoming floats, as well as the crowning of the homecoming queen.
