Barsotti Takes the Reins at Dixon High School

Last night, the Dixon Unified School District Board of Trustees hired John Barsotti as Dixon High's new principal

It’s official. Dixon High School has a new principal.

Last night during a special closed-session meeting of the Dixon Unified School District Board of Trustees, the board hired John Barsotti to take the reins at .

Barsotti has extensive experience in Solano County schools. He has worked as Fairfield High School’s assistant principal and was a former math teacher at Will C. Wood High in Vacaville according to DUSD Assistant Superintendent Brian Dolan.

“He is very well-prepared for his job,” Dolan said.

Barsotti has also worked at Winters High School as its assistant principal. In all, 42 individuals applied for the principal’s position at DHS, which was left vacant when former Principal Ivan Chaidez resigned to become Napa Valley Unified School District’s director of English Language Learner and Alternative Education Services.

A committee consisting of students, parents and DUSD staff whittled down the applicants to eight Dolan said. From there, Barsotti emerged as the top candidate.

Barsotti will be given a four-day weekend to enjoy the Fourth of July holiday. Come Tuesday, he will meet with Dolan and further discuss the job. Dolan himself is a former Dixon High School principal.

Chaidez has also agreed to return to Dixon to give Barsotti a sense of what’s in store for him in his new job, Dolan said.

“I look forward to getting to work right away,” Barsotti said.
