Poll: Agree with Obama's New Immigration Policy?

Tell us if you think he's right to stop deporting younger undocumented immigrants and grant work permits.

The Obama administration responded to years of pressure from immigrants rights groups today with an announcement that it will stop deportations and begin granting work permits for some Dream Act-eligible students, The Huffington Post reports.

Some 800,000 people are expected to come forward to receive deferred action from deportation, as first reported by the Associated Press this morning. The policy change will apply to young undocumented immigrants who entered the United States as children, along the same lines as the Dream Act, a decade-old bill that passed in the House of Representatives but failed in the Senate in 2010.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told reporters that the policy change is part of a general shift by the Obama administration to focus on deporting high-priority undocumented immigrants.

"This grant of deferred action is not immunity," Napolitano said. "It is not amnesty."

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), in a released statement, called the action "a politically-motivated power grab that does nothing to further the debate but instead adds additional confusion and uncertainty to our broken immigration system."

Dixon, do you agree with President Obama's new immigration policy? Why or why not? Please tell us in a comment below.

Have you noticed the daily INS buses going up and down Highway 80? I understand that they are working on sorting out the criminal illegals and shipping them back to their countries of origin. I hope they keep this focus. If they do continue to keep up the pressure, we should notice a difference. Let’s face it we do need Ag and domestic workers and if they want to work we ought to green card them and help them as we can. I also believe more of our citizens need to take back the work at the fast food chains and other low level jobs. If they are unemployed and illegal’s are holding jobs that they could fill then they should fill the position and get off the dole. We have a lot of high school drop outs and these jobs can certainly be filled by them. .

You have to ask yourself, "Does the new policy encourage or discourage people illegaly entering the country?" (Hint: It certainly doesn't reduce it!)

Obama has proven himself a man by the people of the prople and for the prople of other countries and special interest groups and whatever will give him the most political power, I'm surprised he didn't say they will get amnesty if they give $10 to PETA and and $20 to the Sierra club...

I agree of giving working permits.( as long as they also pay taxes) But in order to come and live permanently they should also wait in line. I came to this country back in the 60's to come here I had to go through all the beuracrtic red tape., including doctors, police records etc. and the first paper I was given was a yellow paper stating that im ready to pay Taxes.
